BYD breaks into the Spanish market: an opportunity for workshops
The Chinese brand BYD (Build Your Dreams, which literally translates as build your dreams) has made a strong entry into the Spanish market for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. So far in 2025, it has led sales in the private channel with 5,355 registrations, reaching a market share of 13%. Models such as the Dolphin and the Atto 3 have established themselves as leaders in their respective segments, while the SEAL U DM-i has stood out among plug-in hybrids.
For workshops, this expansion represents both a challenge and an opportunity. The growing presence of BYD vehicles on Spanish roads means increased demand for specialized maintenance and repair services. It is essential that workshops prepare to serve this new clientele by familiarizing themselves with the technical specifications and particular requirements of these models.
In addition, the imminent arrival of the BYD Dolphin Surf, a European version of the Chinese Seagull, promises to further expand the customer base. With an estimated price below 20,000 euros, this model aims to become a bestseller in the urban electric vehicle segment.
BYD's expansion is also reflected in its dealership network, with new openings in various regions of Spain, including Fuenlabrada and Alicante. This growing infrastructure will facilitate access to spare parts and technical support, key aspects for workshops wishing to offer quality service to BYD vehicle owners.
In summary, BYD's consolidation in the Spanish market is a clear sign of the transformation of the automotive sector. Workshops that adapt to this new reality, investing in training and proper equipment, will be better positioned to capitalize on the opportunities offered by this new era of electric mobility.
